Shimano TwinPower FE: sizes, specs and how it differs from the TwinPower SW

Illustrative image, not the exact model.
Shimano North America announced the TwinPower FE in February 2024 and calls it the latest addition to its CoreSolid series. Its body combines aluminum with CI4+ carbon-reinforced resin, which Shimano describes as its most rigid CoreSolid body yet. Four US sizes are offered, all with 9+1 bearings, at $494.99 to $514.99.
The TwinPower name covers three different US products. This page is about the TwinPower FE; the saltwater TwinPower SW and the MagnumLite TwinPower XD are separate reels, compared in the first section below. For the full price ladder, see Shimano spinning reels.

TwinPower FE vs TwinPower SW vs TwinPower XD
The three share a name and a high price bracket, but not a platform. If you fish heavy saltwater, the SW is the one designed for it; if light weight in an inshore reel is the priority, the XD is the MGL option; the FE is the all-round CoreSolid reel.
- TwinPower FE ($494.99 to $514.99): the aluminum and CI4+ CoreSolid reel on this page, 2500 to C5000, which Shimano says is primed for any power finesse situation.
- TwinPower XD FB ($514.99 to $544.99): a MagnumLite reel with the Gen.2 MGL rotor and a CI4+ build, in C3000, 4000 and C5000. Shimano calls it the toughest reel in its MagnumLite series and positions it for inshore fishing.
- TwinPower SW C ($604.99 to $754.99): the saltwater model, 4000 to 14000, with X-Shield, X-Tough Drag, a Heatsink drag on the 10000 and 14000, and up to 55 lb of drag. Shimano aims it at hard-fighting offshore game fish.
Picking a TwinPower FE size
The TP2500FE stands apart from the rest of the range. At 5.1:1 with a 30 in retrieve it is a normal-gear reel, while the C3000XG, 4000XG and C5000XG are all extra-high-gear models. Shimano Japan describes the normal-gear models in its Stradic range as suited to slow presentations, which is the niche this 2500 fills.
The two large sizes are close: the 4000XG weighs 9.2 oz and the C5000XG 9.3 oz, both with 24 lb of drag. The 4000 is rated for heavier braid (up to 50 lb), while the C5000 holds more mono, up to 14 lb at 165 yd.
TwinPower FD vs FE
The FD arrived in 2020; TackleTour described the Twin Power as formerly Japan-only but now a global platform between the Sustain and the Stella. It ran Long Stroke Spool, MicroModule Gear II and SilentDrive, and the US lineup included a 1000.
The FE replaced the body with the dual-material aluminum and CI4+ design and added Infinity Drive, InfinityXross, InfinityLoop and the DuraCross drag. The US range now starts at the 2500.
TwinPower FE vs Stradic FM and Sustain FK
Against the Stradic FM, the TwinPower costs roughly twice as much. On paper that buys the CI4+ section of the body, InfinityLoop, and 9+1 bearings instead of 6+1; both share InfinityXross, Infinity Drive and DuraCross. Size for size from the C3000 up, the two have the same gear ratios and line ratings.
Just below it in price, the Sustain FK ($389.99 to $399.99) takes the MagnumLite route with a Gen.2 MGL rotor and is positioned for inshore and freshwater. Above, the Vanquish C and Stella FK continue the ladder.
TwinPower generations (US model codes)
| Code | US year | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| TwinPower FD | 2020 | Updated for 2020. TackleTour describes the Twin Power as formerly JDM-only but now a global platform between Sustain and Stella. Has Long Stroke Spool, MicroModule Gear II and SilentDrive. US models (from Shimano's US parts listing): TP1000FD, TP2500FD, TPC3000XGFD, TP4000XGFD, TPC5000XGFD. |
| TwinPower FE | 2024 | New dual-material aluminum and CI4+ body. Added Infinity Drive, InfinityXross, InfinityLoop and the DuraCross drag. The US lineup no longer has a 1000 size: TP2500FE, TPC3000XGFE, TP4000XGFE, TPC5000XGFE (official US chart). |
US vs Japan (JDM) version
In Japan this reel is sold as the 24 Twin Power (24ツインパワー).
- The US TwinPower FE page and Shimano Japan's ツインパワー page share the global product ID a075f00003slw5kqac. The Japanese page's promo video is titled "24 TWIN POWER PV ‐ PURE POWER".
- Shimano Japan lists 14 models: C2000S, C2000SHG, C2500SXG, 2500S, 2500SHG, C3000, C3000MHG, C3000XG, 3000MHG, 4000M, 4000PG, 4000MHG, 4000XG and C5000XG. The US table lists 4.
- C3000XG, 4000XG and C5000XG appear in both markets. The US "2500" (TP2500FE, 5.1:1) is not in the Japanese table, which offers 2500S and 2500SHG at that body size.
- Both markets list 9+1 bearings for every model.
- Japanese list prices (本体価格, before tax) are 53,500 to 56,000 yen.

FAQ
Is the TwinPower SW the same reel as the TwinPower FE?
No. The TwinPower SW C is a separate saltwater reel in 4000 to 14000 sizes with up to 55 lb of drag. The TwinPower FE covers 2500 to C5000 with a maximum of 24 lb.
Why is the TwinPower 2500 slower than the other sizes?
The TP2500FE is a normal-gear model at 5.1:1, while the other three sizes are XG (extra-high gear). Shimano Japan describes normal-gear Stradic models in the same way, as suited to slow presentations.
Does the TwinPower FE come in a 1000 size?
Not in the US. The previous TwinPower FD had a TP1000FD, but the FE lineup starts at the 2500.
Is the TwinPower FE the same as the Japanese 24 Twin Power?
It shares a global product ID with Shimano Japan's 24 Twin Power. Japan lists 14 models; the C3000XG, 4000XG and C5000XG appear in both markets, but the US 2500 is not in the Japanese table.
TwinPower FE or Stradic FM?
They match in gear ratios and line ratings from the C3000 up. The TwinPower adds a CI4+ body section, InfinityLoop and more bearings, at roughly double the Stradic's MSRP.
